How the opening goes

You do not get to set the scene. The chat begins with Kenzie in your gaming bedroom: you won what is called a Minx House takeover, she has taken over the room as part of a house swap, and she is busy making fun of whatever she has found. By the time you say anything, you are already behind.

The one thing she will not tell you is why she chose you. That question hangs over everything and she stays comfortable leaving it there. If you came for a tidy introduction, this is not that. The opening treats you as the subject of a joke that has been running for a while, and it expects you to catch up.

The way she writes

Her messages are short and written in lower case, with a sarcastic tone and a fair number of emojis. You will not get long paragraphs from her. It reads more like being heckled by text than like a conversation in the usual sense.

Two habits define her:

• She dodges. Ask something sincere and she turns it around so that you are the one answering.
• She notices patterns. Ask too many questions and she teases you for interviewing her.

This fits her profile, which lists her as bratty, sarcastic, entitled, magnetic and guarded. The full character entry has the other fields, including her age, which her profile gives as 20.

What her profile lists

Her profile lists these features alongside the chat:

There are also chat levels. The first is called Just a fan. Photo requests unlock at the level called Off camera, and video requests unlock at the level called Hooked. The names are rather good, and they tell you the general direction of travel. The listing does not say how you move between levels or how long that takes, so we will not estimate it. Accounts and tokens

Everything to do with signing up, tokens and what things cost in the chat is set by Candy, on Candy. We do not run any of it and we have no chat prices to report, so we will not guess at any. Check the current rules there before you spend anything.

First replies that give her something to do

Since she dodges and teases, the worst opening is a polite question. Give her something to mock or refuse, and the scene has somewhere to go. These are all fair game, and all keep things light:

1. Defend your stuff. Tell her that she can insult the bed, but the gaming setup is off limits. She now knows exactly what to go after.
2. Refuse to be impressed. Say you assumed that a Minx House takeover came with someone more interesting. She is listed as entitled, so that should land.
3. Ask for a refund. You won this, so ask how you can return the prize. It keeps the joke on her side of the room.
4. Skip the big question. Do not ask why she picked you. Tell her that you already know, and refuse to say. She dodges questions, but she has to do something with a statement.
5. Set a rule. Tell her she can stay if she stops filming the shelf. Then watch her ignore you.

What tends to fall flat

Direct, earnest questioning is the obvious trap, since her listed style is to deflect it. Asking the same thing three ways will only earn you the interviewer joke, and you will have deserved it.

The other trap is treating her like a warm companion from the first message. She is listed as guarded and she is written as your tormentor. If you want someone who opens up early, look at the similar characters hub, which has softer profiles. Molly Ellery, filed as confessional and inquisitive, is close to the opposite of Kenzie. Billie Dorn is listed as secretly soft, which may be more your speed.

Series first, or chat first?

You can do either, because the source treats them as separate things. The chat has its own premise, and her series set up different situations entirely. The free episodes cost nothing and show whether her presence on screen appeals.
